Employment Support Services

The Inter-professional Support Services Team (Student Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Instructors) at the Shine Skills Centre provides life planning education, career counseling, job matching and coaching as well as at least 12-month post-employment support services to graduates.

 

Student Counsellors network with employers through visiting them to understand their expectations and market needs, or inviting them to visit the Centre for better understanding of the programmes, thereby identifying potential employers for internship and employment opportunities.

Service Flow from “Workshop Training” to “Individual Care”

1. Job matching

Student Counsellors work out with Class Teachers and Support Service Staff to identify suitable employment opportunities for the graduates based on their abilities and interests. They also provide pre-employment counseling to help graduates adapt.

 

2. During the initial stage of employment

Student Counsellors continue to work with Class Teachers and Support Service Staff to look at graduates’ needs and help them solve the problems for setting in. They:

  • • visit the graduates at workplaces and liaise with their employers / peer workers to understand their performance and needs, help them get familiarized with the work environment and strengthen their confidence;
  • • discuss subsequent learning arrangements with Class Teachers in case the employment require trade skills that the graduates need further nourishing; and
  • • discuss adjustments with the graduates’ employers / supervisors such as rearranging the workflow, or offering counseling service to help graduates’ adaptation.

 

3. Post-training employment support

To keep up graduates' work motivation and sustain their continuous employment in the open market, provision of post-training employment support services has been extended to 12 months upon graduation. An ongoing support service will be provided up to a period of three years for individual graduates on a need basis.

 

For those graduates who are neither in employment nor seeking employment, career-oriented group activities, workshops and counseling sessions with individual graduates will be arranged to strengthen their work motivation and increase their employment opportunities. If further upskilling and reskilling techniques are required, such cases would be referred to Class Teachers.
