Teachers and students shopping in Shanghai

In May 2024, an exchange tour comprising 12 Shine students and a teaching team visited Shanghai. With the arrangement of the Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation, the team participated in pottery activities and hand-painted burlap bag workshops, tried latte art and gained front-line selling experience with coffee shop operations at “Sunshine 201”, HINICHIJOU Coffee, and Dream Coffee. Students were given insights into the employment situation, training facilities, and support services for individuals with disabilities in Shanghai. The team also visited renowned landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Bund along the Huangpu River, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, and the City God Temple, experiencing the unique charm of this modern city.

The students expressed that the trip was fruitful and stimulating. Not only did it allow them to communicate and interact with disabled individuals in Shanghai, but it also broadened their visions on potential career paths, better prepared them for future social integration and strengthened their confidence in post-graduation development. Furthermore, the exchange taught the students a deeper understanding of national development. They learned to appreciate and inherit the traditions of Chinese culture in a diverse society and developed a greater respect towards different cultures and perspectives.
